Does the way you clean waste money? It’s time to think about how often you clean things and why! Stop wasting time cleaning things wrong. Stop wasting time and money on things that you don’t need to clean!

Awful right? Literally all that money going down the drain. We live in a society where we tend to clean to an excessive level. Over cleaning can lead to unnecessary work and expenditures.

Follow my lead to save yourself money and time by being less obsessive in the cleaning department. You’ll still look flawless and your home will be spotless, I promise.

Stop Wasting Time and Money: Wash Your Hair Less

3 Unique ways to save more money. wash your hair less

In general, people get into routines of how often to shampoo one’s hair. It becomes an automatic schedule. Many become self conscious when skipping a shower, but have no fear no one is going to notice if you shower 5 times a week instead of 7.

3 unique ways to save more money. Depending on your habits, you can reap a number of benefits from washing your hair less often.

Our scalp produces a natural oil known as sebum. If you wash this natural oil away too often, you will be left with dry hair and an itchy scalp among many other common scalp and hair problems.

When you wash your hair too often, you are thus styling your hair more often than you need to also. This causes damage to your luscious locks.

When you wash your hair less often you will save money on:

  1. Shampoo and Conditioner. Use less, buy less.
  2. Deep Conditioning Treatments. They won’t be needed.
  3. Hairspray. Just stop putting it on your hair. It weighs down your hair in between washes.
  4. Styling Serum. You won’t be styling as often, but gooping up your hair should be skipped.
  5. Clarifying Shampoo. Less hair washing and styling equals less buildup.
  6. Dry shampoo – Your hair will stay cleaner longer.
  7. Anti-dandruff products.
  8. Less hair trimming because you will have healthier hair.
  9. Less hair dye and touch-ups. Your natural, healthy shine will come through.
  10. Electricity – Minute saving yes, but 30 minutes of hair drying a day adds up.
  11. Keep your hair in top condition and skip the heat damage.

You will not only be saving money, you will be saving time. What will you do with your new found extra hour everyday?

My favorite shampoo is affordable and sulfate free. Thanks to Amazon you can buy Costco’s Kirkland Professional Salon Formula Moisture Shampoo or Conditioner online. I have been using it for years on my very long hair. My hair is well hydrated and healthy. I highly recommend the shampoo and conditioner from Kirkland.

Stop Wasting Time and Money: Wash Your Clothes Less

3 Unique ways to save more money. Wash your clothes less to save.

We all invest a considerable amount of money on clothing. I’m a huge advocate for washing clothing less often. It saves time, money, water and electricity.

Before you think “no way” hear me out!

Levi’s CEO actually recommends NOT washing your jeans. He explains that as indigo dye fades naturally, it enhances the appearance of our jeans. Less washing adds character to the creases and wrinkles.

I wash my jeans every 4 wears or so but it’s recommended to wash them even less often than that!

What to clean less to save more money

Layering clothing is another simple way to save your clothing from the need to be washed every wear. Do you want your nice cashmere sweater to be smooshed up against your deodorant? Wouldn’t a lightweight, long sleeved shirt separating the two be a nice addition?

I always wear an extra layer, be it a tank top, a t-shirt or as mentioned a lightweight long-sleeve shirt. At the end of the day, I let my sweater air out and I toss the t-shirt in the laundry.

You should never use a dryer on the clothes you value. Not only will this save you money in electricity but drying is actually the biggest culprit in the degradation of your clothing. That high, hot heat is murder on fibers. It ruins the structure of the clothing and fades it worse than washing.

Concerned about odors on clothing? Throw your clothing (especially handy for jeans) in the freezer. This will kill bacteria and leave your clothing odorless.

When it’s time for a wash then hand wash and hang dry. Just check the label for instructions.

Another great way to keep your clothes clean is to buy some sweat shields. These handy little pieces of fabric keep the sweat away from your clothing completely!

Stop Wasting Time and Money With Cleaning Products

3 Unique ways to save more money. Save cash by using water to clean

My mom’s counters are spotless! No dust, no grime, no residue. Sheer sheen on every surface. How is this possible?

“What do you use on your counter tops?!” The response left me speechless. “Water.”

Water?! With the untold amount of money I have been spending on cleaners, my mom has gorgeous countertops thanks to only simple water.

I went home and looked at my counters. They were clean but there’s always a little bit of dust that taunts me (older caulk in our kitchen). Instead of grabbing my go-to spray cleanser, I grabbed a sponge full of water and swished it around. When I was done, it looked the same as if I had used a chemical spray cleaner.

No smell, looks clean….what more could I want?

What you should clean less often to save money

A few days later I grab my duster to get crazy on my cabinets and counters. I check the old caulking and there’s nothing there. Did I forget that I just cleaned recently? …. No it’s been a few days… what is this magic?

I went about my business and stopped using cleanser on my baseboards. Same outcome…  days later I go to touch up and there is no dust.

What is going on? Well, here is what I figured out. Despite all the supposed beneficial aspects of cleaning products, they collect dust and leave a film. This film is dust and grimes’ best friend.

Without the chemical residue on my counters and baseboards, my house looks cleaner. All thanks to free, clear, sweet tasting water!

Splash cleaning is my new favorite thing

If you are looking for something that is antibacterial, try adding a slight amount of vinegar.

A product that I do love is the magic eraser which will literally erase any stain on almost any surface. My laminate countertops sparkle now. Prior to the magic erasers, any little spill would immediately stain. Now I can relax when I make my coffee because I know I’m not potentially applying a new layer of artwork to my counters.

The swiffer duster is also a go to in our home. The duster pads literally lock onto the dust every time, and let me tell you I load them up. My baseboards look so much better thanks to these little miracle workers and they are perfect for fan blades.

I hope that with these tips and tricks you will appreciate not having to clean as often, stop wasting money tnow! I’m right here giving you permission to work less! Take it.

Yesss does anyone wash their hair every day anymore? I always try to wash my hair at night so I can let it air dry, and never wash it every day. Now that I’ve stopped doing that, my hair is a million times healthier! Great tips! 🙂

Thanks Chelsea! Hair is seriously the easiest thing to save money on! I actually do know people who still wash their hair everyday. No matter how hard I tried they would not convert! I’m glad it’s catching on. Thanks so much for the comment.
